The Production Manager has direct accountability for the safety, financial and operational performance of the Brookfield Cement Plant production. The Production Manager plays a key role in developing and executing on all budgets, cost savings, performance plans and Key Performance Indicator (KPI’s) targets. Ensures safe and healthy working conditions in operations under his/her responsibility. Directly contributes to synergies between plant, sales and logistics.

Responsibilities

 

Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Ensures safe and healthy working conditions in sites under his/her responsibility
  • Implements an effective health and safety action plan including training, communication, audits, aligned with the HSMS developed by the Country organization & the Group.
  • Ensures efficient industrial cleaning and housekeeping throughout the plant. Manages operations and works with maintenance to eliminate spillages.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations

 

Financial Management:

 

  • Promotes a culture of performance. Effectively develops goals and objectives to implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement
  • Drives the production related component of the PDP process and involves department coordinators as required in its development. Actively participates in setting annual Budget in line with Group objectives and country realities with a sufficient level of detail to drive execution and tracking.
  • Conducts monthly financial review and forecast with team. Communicates and builds actions accordingly.
  • The incumbent is responsible to develop necessary capital expenditures within his department to maintain and improve productivity.

 

Customer Focus:

 

  • Ensures that products made meet customers/market internal quality objectives
  • Ensures that the production meets markets demands
  • Collaborates with Sales and Distribution
  • Communications transparently and timely to the needs of Distribution and Sales.

 

Operations Management:

 

  • Ensures supply to ensure raw materials and fuels are available and their costs optimized.
  • Actively works in collaboration with Procurement and our Energy Manager to minimize costs through the use of alternative fuels and raw materials.
  • Ensures the operating efficiency of all major pieces of plant equipment (from raw materials & fuels receiving, through raw grinding, fuel preparation, pyro processing and cement grinding.
  • Manages refractory selection, installation and performance.
  • Interacts with direct reports to develop best practices, processes and to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class.
  • Effectively use Lafarge resources and programs to drive operational excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and application of plant policies and procedures.

 

Environment, Land & Community Relations:

 

  • Establishes the environment as a priority. Ensures all local and provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge best practices and the conditions of site permits are strictly adhered to.

 

People Management:

 

  • ‘Walks the floor.’ Takes the time to be present in all locations of the operations, and to be open to all levels of the organization, to communication and concerns.
  • Participates in the building of the career and succession plan for the key positions and employees in his/her area of responsibility
  • Ensure the right persons are in the right position. Hires and dismisses staff in co-ordination with HR, as required.
  • Follows and promotes the Lafarge HR business cycle (O & HR Review, Annual performance review, Annual Objective setting, Individual Development Plans, Career, & Succession Plan.)
  • Ensures compliance with the Collective Agreement within the department.
  • Guide and assists the departmental staff in the administration of the Collective Agreement, the handling of grievances and the application of discipline.
  • Actively promotes a diverse and inclusive workforce.

  • Direct Reports: 1 Production Coordinator, 1 Yard/Shipping Supervisor, 1 Process Engineer, 1 Waste Oil Technician
  • Indirect Reports: 1 Production Analyst, 23 Unionized Employees
  • Volumes: 250,000 tonnes
  • 1 kiln, 1 raw mill, 1 finish mill

Qualifications

 

Education:

 

  • Diploma in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

 

Experience and Skill Set:

 

  • 5 years of progressive management experience
  • 10 years of industrial manufacturing experience
  • Experience in the cement manufacturing is an asset
  • Proven team leadership
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • Good knowledge of Cement production equipment and Cement industry
  • Good knowledge of working in unionized environment
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
